have been playing a silly amount of dark souls and skyrim of late and spurred on by dragon bashing viking simulators this is me attempt to do a arthur rackham/paul bonner/james jean- esque fantasy pic (linkys for these much betterer artist below), tho somewhere along the way it turned into a slightly odd christmas poster for the bairn, hence the guinea pig…
dave’s thing
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand part three of three of the mcrudden/howitt jobbie. was proper good fun to doodle the monster as it doesn’t matter that much if i knack up the proportions, plus “dave’s thing” sounds kind rude…
have also broken down the picture step by step , like they do on proper websites too;
biro draft, vague composition and that.
separate inked layers scanned in and arranged alongside title for final composition.
blocked off basic colour fills.
shading on dave, also basing light source and direction from his lantern for shadow and highlights.
shaded in the rest of the pic, few gradients thrown in there and spatter effect on the tentacles to break it up and give a wee bit of texture.
background gradient and blurred snow trails at the bottom of the pic, ripped the title of the webernet with an outer glow added, also overlaid blood spatter on the blair monster.
filled up the space at the side of the pic with extra tentacles and added some light rays from the lantern.
final pic, blurred the blair monster slightly to give some depth and added a film grain for extra texture.
